How to Season a Carbon Steel Pan

How to Season a Carbon Steel Pan

Quick Start: How to Use Butter Not Pan Seasoning Wax (3 Methods)

Method 1. Stovetop Seasoning (Fastest Method)

1. Prep: Clean and dry your pan. Warm it over low heat (200–300°F).
2. Apply: Rub a pea-sized amount of Butter Not onto the surface with a cloth. You want a super thin layer.
3. Bond: Increase heat to medium-high until the wax melts and turns glossy (~2 mins).
4. Set: Once smoking begins, wait 1 minute, then wipe off excess. Cool and repeat  as needed (2–3x if repairing).

Method 2. Oven Seasoning (Most Durable)

1. Prep: Preheat oven to 450°F (polymerization temp). Place foil on the bottom rack.
2. Coat: Apply Butter Not to the entire pan (inside, outside, and handle).
3. Bake: Place pan upside down in the oven for 1 hour. Let cool inside.

Method 3. Blackstone/Flat Top Grill

1. Warm: Heat griddle to low (200–300°F).
2. Spread: Apply Butter Not thinly across the surface.
3. Polymerize: Increase heat to high until smoking (~3 mins). Wipe excess, cool, repeat.
